So, good blogs are updated regularly (which I know mine is not....I've never been particularly interested in blogging). But more than updating regularly I think the sharing of information and communication between blogs is important, since the idea of this assigment is for us to share our interests or concerns about the class and either help each other out or just spend more time learning about the language and the culture.

I never actually seem to manage to post on Friday. One, because I generally don't blog and so I'm just not thinking about it, and two, Fridays are busy.

But I've been wanting to post this for a little while, so here is an awesome video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L91KVUXRBq8 I'm sure there's a better way to share the video, but I'm not sure how, so go there. Even if you don't know sign language, watch it. You will enjoy it =P I mean, you can tell that he's talking about a ninja. That's the beauty of classifiers. I'm interested in finding out how Japanese uses classifiers, because I tend to think of them only in terms of ASL, and not verbal languages. Counters may be an example. Also, when I looked up that video I looked up some Japanese Sign Language too just to compare, which was really interesting.

This chapter seems to be going better so far, which is good. I'm also very impressed with the variety of sentences we can use now that we know other verbs and particles. Writing the さくぶん for this chapter surprised me, because I was able to write so much more than I though I could. It will be really interesting to see how the skits turn out, especially after learning so much more vocabulary and our discussion in class. I know this entry is a little late but this has been a long day (or rather yesterday has) and I was so exhausted I just fell asleep. But now it is a long weekend...yay fall break! I hope everyone has the chance to enjoy it.

Hey Everyone!

I'm excited about starting a new chapter, mostly because of the struggle with katakana last chapter but also because now we're learning verbs and really expanding vocabulary. Also Kanji! So as far as study tips, lots of practice? I find it really helpful to just be exposed to the material a lot, but learning by association is also helpful (for example, breaking down words). This class really does involve a lot of work compared to my other classes...or maybe it's just that I do a week's worth of work at one time for them. In any case, Japanese is actually very rewarding. I'm impressed with how much we've learned in such a short amount of time and how comfortably some phrases just roll off my tongue.

In other news, I'm going home this weekend to see an American Sign Language show at Gallaudet University. It's exciting! These shows never happen, at least not when/where I can go. They're also just generally amazing. And it's great to be able to do this this weekend because last week was just sooo stressful. A quiz every day in Japanese, a quiz on Monday in ASL, a Chem quiz on Friday and a Bio Exam on Friday. I hope midterms are not that closely packed. I believe not. But anyway, this will be a great change of pace from last week and the perfect way to finish this one. I might even get around to posting some entries in other languages this weekend; I've been meaning to. I just went to go watch un film en francais. (how do I do accents on this blog? I shall figure that out later...I'm way too tired now.) So possible french film review/asl video forthcoming.
